Coaches at Scorpions Soccer are hired based on their knowledge of the game, ability to teach the game, and ability to relate to children.  Our staff features highly experienced and qualified men and women, some of whom are well known and regarded as the finest in the region.  Listed below are the current coaches on our staff.  Please click on the coach's name for more information.

Fred Marks holds the USSF D License. Fred is one of the most experienced coaches in the club and has been coaching for well over 15 years. He has been involved in Recreational, travel and district teams. He has led his teams to several State Cup championships, and a Region I championship. Fred is the current President and Founder of Scorpions Soccer.  He is currently the Braintree High School Head Coach and the head coach of the Scorpions Soccer U13 and U14 Elite teams.

Brendon Boates

Brendon is now in his fifth year with Scorpions Soccer, and his third year as a staff coach.  Brendon's first Scorpions team graduated from the club in June after reaching the State Cup Final (2006-2007 U19 Girls).  Before becoming a full-time staff coach, Brendon was the head women's coach at Dean College, and he was the co-coach of the 1988 RI Girls ODP team.

In 2003, he served as an assistant coach to both the women's team, and the New England Regional Championship men's team at Dean. After the 2003 season, he was promoted to Head Coach for the women's squad. In his first season, the women's team doubled their winning percentage from the previous year, and had four players selected to the All New England 1st team. During his tenure at Dean, Brendon coached 11 All New England Players, and one NJCAA All American.

Prior to pursuing a career in coaching, Brendon played collegiately at Springfield College, where he was able to participate in both the ECAC and NCAA tournaments. He graduated from Springfield with a bachelor's degree in Education and History. Before coming to SCS he was a junior high school teacher and a high school soccer coach.

Brendon holds the NSCAA National Diploma (passed with distinction), and is the director of our successful Junior Academy.  He also coaches the U11 Elite team and as a staff coach is directly involved with the club's U11 and U12 Club teams.

Don Whitaker

Don began his coaching career at the age of 16 working with youth soccer players in Weymouth. At the age of 19 he joined the Weymouth Soccer Club as coach of one of their boys teams. Don has been a coach with the Weymouth Soccer Club for ten years and during that time has coached five teams to state championships.

Don is a 2004 graduate of Bridgewater State College and has a bachelors degree in physical education. He is curently a physical education teacher at Chapman Middle School in Weymouth. Don served as the head freshman boys coach at Weymouth High School, as well as an assistant coach with the Varsity team.

Don has coached many other successful club teams in his coaching career. He is currently in his second year with Scorpions this year.  This year, Don will direct our Scorpions Junior Academy Boys pool, in addition to coaching the U13 Boys team.  Under Coach Whitaker last year, the boys gained promotion to MAPLE Division 1 and finished as Quarterfinalists in last year's Paul Irwin Cup.

Patrick Marino

Patrick is a Massachusetts soccer veteran, and begins his third year on the Scorpions Soccer Staff.  Prior to joining the club, Patrick served in staff roles for other Massachusetts clubs, as a director of programs and clinician, and has coached teams at all levels.  He also worked for Major League Soccer Camps where he not only served as a director of programs, but also was nominated for various awards, including National Coach of the Year.  Patrick has coached children of all levels across much of the United States.  Locally, he has also been a high school varsity boys coach, and an assistant coach at Tufts University.  He holds a Goalkeeping qualification from the NSCAA and is a Certified Personal Trainer.  Recently he also joined the staff of the New England Revolution Soccer Academy.

Patrick played college soccer at Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire, and the team earned national rankings and tournament berths during his time there.  During a brief adult playing career, Patrick participated in various leagues including the Cape Cod Amateur League and the USISL Indoor Professional League.

Since joining the Scorpions staff, Patrick has coached both younger and teenage girls and boys teams.  He is currently the coach of the U12 Elite team and as a staff coach helps train the U11 and U12 Club teams.  Patrick is also the director of our Dartmouth satellite Junior Academy, and the director of the Scorpion Bowl.

Tom Brodeur

Tom joins Scorpion Soccer after coaching many years at the local and club level. Tom began coaching in the Rockland Youth Soccer system in addition to being Vice-President for four years. During that time, he has worked with boys and girls ranging from age 5-14. He has also coached Massachusetts premier clubs, most recently South Shore Select.

Tom grew up in Chicopee, Massachusetts and is a 1979 graduate of St. Anselm College having started for four years in central defense.

In addition to coaching, Tom enjoys playing in a men’s indoor league in Hingham. He resides in Rockland with his wife and three children.

He holds a USSF coaching license, and will be coaching the U11 Premier Girls team for 2007-2008.

Renee Demarsh

Renee DeMarsh is in her third year with Scorpions Soccer. She holds a national C license from the USSF and an Advanced Regional Diploma from the NSCAA. She has coached with the Sandwich Soccer Club where she has taken her team to the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions. She has also coached in a number of camps. Playing at a time where opportunities for female players were limited, Renee played high school soccer for the boys varsity soccer team in Groton Massachusetts. She was also selected for the U15 girls ODP team. Renee played soccer and basketball in college at Plymouth State. At that time, Plymouth was routinely ranked in the top 20 in New England in all divisions and won several ECAC 3 titles. During her senior year at Plymouth State, she played in the first ever women's soccer NCAA Division III final where she was selected to the all tournament team. She is a Speech Pathologist in the Carver Public School system and is also certified to teach Physical Education. Renee's two daughters, Rylie and Kenna, have both played for Scorpions, and Kenna is currently a member of the U13 Elite Girls team.

When she isn't coaching, Renee plays for several women's and coed soccer teams. She is the founder and president of the coed over 30 Sandwich Adult Soccer league which has more than 100 participants during the summer months.
 
Renee is currently the coach of the U12 Premier Girls team.  For the past two years, Renee directed the Junior Academy Plymouth satellite, where she built the program from scratch into a successful and healthy contributor to the club.

Katie Dempsey

Katie is in her second season with the Scorpions, having joined the club last winter.  She grew up in Natick, MA, where she was an outstanding youth player before taking her act on the road for the Franklin Pierce College women's team.  There, she was part of multiple NSCAA DII national championships and earned several individual achievements there, including NSCAA All-New England 1st Team Defender and All NECC 1st Team Defender honors in 1999.  Katie is the #10 Career Assist Leader and #22 Career Scoring Leader at Franklin Pierce.

Coach Dempsey also has a fantastic coaching background.  Most recently, Katie was at Placer United (Placer County, California) as a full-time staff coach and director of girls programming.  She's held roles locally as the Director of Coaching for Elite Soccer Association in Hopkinton and Assistant Director of Player Development for Aztecs Soccer Club in Beverly.  She has served on the staffs of several summer camp programs, as well as for the Massachusetts Olympic Development Program.  Katie has holds an NSCAA National Diploma as well as a KNVB Dutch Youth License.

Katie is the coach of the U13 Premier Girls team.

John Macintyre

John is a veteran of youth soccer circles in Southeastern Massachusetts.  In eight years with Weymouth Soccer Club, John has been a coach of three Mass Tournament of Champions Winners.  He has also been involved with Massachusetts premier clubs for six years.  Prior to joining the Scorpions, John coached teams for Sporting Cristale, South Shore United, and South Shore Select. 

Currently, John is the Weymouth High School girls coach.  He also helps run summer camps for former boys Varsity coach Steve Shoff.  John holds an NSCAA Coaching Diploma.

John is the head coach of the Scorpions U13 Club Girls team.

Neil Roberts

Scorpions Soccer is pleased to welcome Neil Roberts to the coaching staff, where he will take over as the team coach for the U14 Premier Girls team for the 2007-2008 season.

Neil Roberts is the Men's coach at Boston University.  He has coached at BU for 22 seasons.  His illustrious career has included countless team and individual honors, and is the program's all-time winningest head coach.  He holds a USSF coaching license, and has been a successful coach at the youth level as well, guiding teams to State Cup and Regional Championships.

Given Neil's obvious commitments at BU, Neil will be assisted by Scorpions Staff during his time in our club.  However, his wealth of knowledge and experience will be key additions to our club and the Girls U14 Premier team this year.

Keith Caldwell

Keith joins the Scorpions Soccer staff having just completed a fine collegiate soccer career. He was a four year player at Brown University, where he earned several honors (including All Ivy and leading goal scorer) and his team earned NCAA tournament invitations. Before heading off to Brown University, Keith was a local youth soccer standout, playing for the South Shore United Blazers, multiple state cup championships and a region 1 championsip, and also participating in the Adidas Elite Soccer Program (ESP). Keith was recently drafted by the Colorado Rapids of MLS.

Having coached for several different organizations over the years, Keith is now the sole proprietor for Keith Caldwell's Soccer Edge Training Programs, Inc. offering small group and private training services to youth players across the south shore. He holds an NSCAA Advanced Youth Diploma.  Keith is the coach of the U15 Elite Girls team and the U15 Boys team.

Jon Anderson

Jon joined Scorpions Soccer for a second tour last year. He is the coach of the U17 Elite team.  Jon is the current Men's Varsity Coach at Babson College.

A veteran coach who has guided Babson to 12 postseason appearances and the 1997 ECAC New England Championship, Jon Anderson is in his 21st season in charge of the men’s soccer program.

The Beavers have enjoyed unparalleled success under Anderson, posting a 219-107-40 (.653) record over 19 years and a New England Division III ranking in all but three seasons. Anderson’s teams have made eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1991. In addition, Babson has won eight conference titles, including the NEWMAC Championship in 2002 and 2004, and Anderson has been honored as league Coach of the Year on six occasions. He led the Beavers to yet another berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2004, where they advanced to the second round for the second time in three years, and was named the NEWMAC, NEISL, NSCAA Coach of the Year.

A 1975 graduate of Babson, Anderson was a three-year starter at center midfield, playing on teams that went 56-5-4 and earned three NCAA Tournament berths, including the school’s first-ever national championship in 1975. Following graduation, Anderson was a teacher/coach in Weymouth and Cohasset, Mass., before taking over as Babson’s soccer coach in 1986.

A well-respected lecturer and director of the popular Babson and South Shore soccer camps, Anderson resides in Scituate, Mass., with his wife and four children.

Patrick Marks

Pat joined Scorpions as a team coach in 2005. He is the son of Club President Fred Marks.

A former player, Pat is a favorite of the players he coaches. He is currently a student at Northeastern University.

Pat is the head coach of the U15 Club Girls team, and assists coach Neil Roberts with the U14 Premier Girls team.

Peter Scozzari

Peter Scozzari holds his KNVB Dutch Youth Soccer Certificate and the KNVB Dutch
Advanced Coaching Certificate. Both these accomplishments are highly regarded in the
soccer coaching arena.  He also holds his NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma.

Peter has been coaching for over 20 years. His experience ranges from the recreational all the way up through the high school level. Peter has brought great knowledge and enthusiasm to all the players he touches. Much of his coaching has been done
in Canton, Plymouth and Virginia.

Peter is currently the coach for the U16 Girls team.

Courtney Gately

Courtney will be assisting with our Girls U16 team this season.  She is a former South Coast Soccer Club member.  She also had a successful playing career at Canton High School (three-year Hockomock League All Star and Captain of CHS), and later at Keene State College, NH (also team captain, Courtney was also selected as League MVP).  Courtney is currently an assistant coach at Canton High School.
