Melissa Gavin, Yale Freshman

Hi everyone!  I am having the time of my life here at Yale!  I have been training for about a month and a half and I really enjoy my coaches and my teammates.  My team is very good, but also very young, and our record is 4-4-2.  I started classes the first week in September, but our first two weeks of classes is a Shopping Period, where we "shop" for different classes and see which ones we want to take.  We have midterms next week and I am very nervous!  Despite New Haven's bad reputations, Yale is a beautiful school with an endless amount of things to do; I haven't met one person who doesn't love it here!  My freshman class all came from good clubs like Albertson, Slammers, Mustang, and Eclipse but I think that Scorpions prepared me the best for Yale.  While some are struggling to fit in with the one-to-two touch style of play, I think back to all my years of playing games with the one-touch limit and I am very grateful.  I think out of everything I miss my club teammates the most.  I got to see Kate Makaroff, who plays for Harvard, last weekend and we talked so long after our game that I missed my shower and team dinner!  Our next game is Saturday against Dartmouth, so I am very anxious for the weekend to come around.  I'll check in again soon and let you all know how it went!

Samantha Mewis, UCLA Freshman

Hello from Sunny LA!  I'm having a blast here at UCLA.  My teammates and I have been here training and playing for almost 2 months now, (it hasn't rained yet!).  We are currently 6-0-1 in non-conferecce games, and I start classes tomorrow!  I just got back from an LA King's game- don't worry, i didn't cheer for them.  The other ten freshman and I are having the time of our lives.  The soccer is incredible, the facilities are awesome,  the coaches are some of the best in the country, but we all miss home.  I miss my club teammates more than anything, and we all are still trying to keep in touch despite our busy schedules.  I've been realizing that Scorpions not only prepared me for the soccer here, but for the social aspect of college as well!  I sprained my ankle this past weekend against LMU and have some pretty nasty bruising, but I'm hoping to play our first PAC12 game against University of Washington tomorrow.  I'll check in again soon and let you all know how it goes!
