High Plains Drifters Soccer Academy


Dear ASA Parents,

The High Plains Drifters Academy formerly West Texas Soccer Academy will begin training players in the U8, U9, and U10 age groups for the Fall Season of 2008 on Monday September 22nd

Players may register online through Amarillo Soccer Association or at the field on September 22nd.

The cost is $60.00 per player for the Fall Season only. $100.00 for Fall and Spring seasons.

Each session will be held on Monday night at Southeast Park and will last 2 hours. Players will receive 8 training sessions for their $60.00 fee.

Players in the U9 and U10 age group will be eligible to participate in Academy tournaments. HPD will form teams for the U9 boys and girls, and the U10 boys and girls. These teams will travel to Academy tournaments.

High Plains Drifters has been dedicated to the development of soccer players in the Panhandle since 1994. High Plains Drifters is the oldest, largest and most successful soccer club in West Texas. All players will receive advanced instruction in soccer technique, and tactics from High Plains Drifters, and West Texas A&M coaches.

The High Plains Drifters Soccer Club offers world class instruction from the largest and most experienced coaching staff in West Texas led by Robert “Butch” Lauffer, USSF “A” License, UEFA Professional Badge, Head Coach of West Texas A&M University, Assistant Coach Trinidad & Tobago Women’s U17 National Team, Technical Advisor to FIFA at multiple World Cups.

 Some reminders:

  • All players must be registered with Amarillo Soccer Association in order to participate in academy activities
  • All players are required to continue participating with their recreational team during academy training. Academy training is secondary to team participation
  • All players are required to wear shin guards, soccer cleats, and soccer appropriate clothing to training
  • All players need to bring a properly inflated soccer ball, and water to all training sessions
  • All academy practices will be held on Monday night  at Southeast Park
  • All academy practices will be conducted under the supervision of a senior coach from the High Plains Drifters Soccer Club
  • All senior coaches hold a minimum of a USSF “D” license
  • Any player who does not comply with ASA regulations in regard to recreational team participation will be suspended from Academy training until they are in compliance
  • All players are expected to behave appropriately towards coaches and other players at all time during training, any player who has to be repeatedly reprimanded will be suspended from training
  • Players suspended from activities will not receive a refund of entrance fees

Academy Objective: To bring an opportunity to the U8-U10 boys/girls recreational divisions in Amarillo and surrounding areas to grow as soccer players in a fun and challenging environment. The vision is to give individual coaching to players to help master the techniques needed to enjoy the game at a more personal level. We will provide the tools and direction regardless of individual goals within the framework of the academy. This means the academy is for the player that wants to become an elite soccer player as well as for the player just learning the game. Our hope is that through the academy environment that we will be able to provide a lifetime activity regardless of skill level to each player.

WHO: U8-U10 registered boys/girls---technical training which will be age group and gender specific. The eligible age for academy will be: Must be a registered ASA player as well as be on an actual team!!!!!

U10 Aug 1st 1998- July 31st 1999
U9 Aug 1st 1999- July 31st 2000
U8 Aug 1st 2000- July 31st 2001

If your child's birthdate does not fall between these dates they are NOT ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE in the Academy.

WHEN: The academy will be held on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm. The Academy Sessions will run concurrent to the ASA season. The location for these training sessions will be at Southeast Park. Please plan to be at each session 15-20 minutes early for check-in.

COST: $60 for 8 sessions.

    PLAYER NEEDS: shin-guards, water, ball and Drifters Academy  t-shirt. Please arrive 15 minutes before each session to economize time. The first session will be hectic please make plans to be there at least 30-45 minutes in advance for check-in with all of your paper work filled out.
