Blackhawks Quick Overview

Blackhawks Logo

The Blackhawks are the competitive side of ASUSC. We have three levels Black, Red and White with Black being the top team. Currently we have about 40 teams with over 500 players, ages 6 to 18. The league a team chooses to play in will determine where games are played. Most league games are played in the greater Phoenix area. Tournaments are chosen by each team and may require out of state travel.

All Blackhawk teams are assigned a professional trainer who, in conjunction with a team manager, guides the team through their season, which beings in late Summer and ends in the Spring/Summer. The team manger's responsibilities are primarily focused on administrative duties. Except in emergency circumstances, all on-field training and coaching is done by the professional trainer.

Blackhawks pay the same registration fees as the recreational soccer players, but also pay training, tournament, travel, and uniform fees. The amount of these fees varies from team to team, and is determined at the beginning of each season. The best way to determine if the Blackhawk program is right for you is to attend try-outs and speak with the trainers and coaches on the field.

The Blackhawk program also offers a variety of additional training, some at no cost to the players. Goalkeeping training and College Prep sessions are but two examples of this. All Blackhawks are expected to participate in their age appropriate Summer sessions (Summer Skills, Junior Academy, or Senior Academy).

Game and Practice Uniforms

The Team Manager for each Blackhawks team has the responsibility to coordinate many team functions including uniform orders. The Club negotiates uniforms and prices in January of each year based on anticipated needs expressed by Blackhawks team leadership. After tryouts and team player selection, the Team Manager collects the game and practice uniform requirements from each player and submits the order for fulfillment by the uniform supplier(s). The Team Manager also collects the uniform fees due from each team player. If you have any questions about this, please see your Team Manager or your team trainer for information.
Games and Training
Our Blackhawks teams train in Scottsdale and play many of their games on Scottsdale fields and also in the surrounding area. Primarily the boys train at McDowell Mtn Ranch Park, DC Ranch Park, and Scottsdale Sports Complex. The girls train primarily at Chaparral Park.

Games for the "top" team in an age group are generally played on regional fields used by the AYSA State League -- Scottsdale Sports Complex, Reach 11 and Rose Mofford Parks in Phoenix, and Quail Run in Tempe. Other Blachawks teams will play league games on home fields about half the time and travel to other team's home fields half of the time. Blackhawks home fields are in Scottsdale, primarily at Chaparral Park.  Most of the other teams in the league will have home fields in the greater Scottsdale / Phoenix area.

Most Blackhawks teams will choose to play in tournaments in addition to league games. These tournaments are mostly in the Phoenix area, the State of Arizona, and sometimes out of state. Each team chooses tournaments in which to play and the team trainer influences the choices based on how prepared the team is to play in such tournaments.
