FCCA Recreational Program
The FC Carolina Alliance Recreational Soccer Program is open to all players, genders and abilities between 4 - 10 years of age. FCCA has four recreation programs located in Cabarrus County, Rowan County, Huntersville and Stanley County. All practices and festivals are held at Frank Liske Park, Catawba College, Pfeiffer University, Salisbury Community Park and FCCA affiliated venues.
The FCCA recreational program is a grassroots program that feeds into the challenge and Classic programs at FCCA. For more information on the FCCA challenge and Classic programs please visit the specific links on the FCCA website.
The FCCA recreational soccer program does not require trying out, but merely signing up. Every player who signs up within the registration period is guaranteed a spot in our program. If you are a late registrant please contact the FCCA office at 704-455-7311 and we will work to add your child to the program. If this is a player’s first time with FCCA, a copy of their birth certificate (or passport) must accompany the registration form along with full payment. In an effort to open soccer to all those interested, FCCA offers a limited number of registration dues assistance packages for those in need of financial assistance. Please contact the FCCA office if assistance is needed.
There are two registration periods each year. For the fall season, registration begins in early May and runs through to the month of September. Registration for the spring season begins in late-November and continues through early April.
In an effort to further the soccer development of all the children in our program, the program offers skills sessions, mini-camps, festivals and other special events throughout the season and we encourage all our participants to take part.
All players who participate in the FCCA recreation program receive a commemorative medal.
Program Goal:
The goal of the FCCA recreation curriculum is to provide fun and soccer development where a positive and creative learning environment is encouraged and created by our elite coaching staff through the game of soccer.
It is only in this environment that young players can learn to love the game of soccer and develop positive habits and attitudes which provide the foundations for soccer excellence.
The FCCA recreation program aims to provide each child with the opportunity to reach his or her potential (and to develop a healthy, active lifestyle) while at the same time teaching them teamwork, responsibility and commitment through the game of soccer.
When kids enjoy the game at an early age, the likelihood of players staying in the game for years to come enhances. FCCA has a strong tradition of developing players from our community who have gone on to play collegiate soccer who began their love of the game and soccer development in the FCCA recreation program. The FCCA recreation program strives to continue this growth year after year.
Program Leadership
FCCA has built strong relationships with the three academic institutions in our community. Pfeiffer University, UNC Charlotte and Catawba College players and staff provide the backbone of the coaching staff in the FCCA recreation program.
The FCCA recreation program provides quality elite coaching and exposure to collegiate soccer players and staff who in turn serve as incredible role models to the youth of our club.
Executive Director Shane Carew alongside his Directors of Coaching has assembled one of the finest recreation staff in the region.
“Our recreation program is the introductory level of the game for many children in our community. FCCA is proud to have forged strong relationships with the three local academic institutions in our community through UNC Charlotte, Pfeiffer University and, Catawba College. It is the hope of FCCA to develop a true love of the game of soccer in our youth and we are privileged to be able to do so by providing some of the finest coaching staff and role models in the region.”
Carew has selected UNC Assistant coach Kyle Gookins and Hickory Ridge high school varsity coach Scott Wolfe to head up the Cabarrus recreation program, Catawba Assistant coach Frank Cardelle to head up the Rowan program, Pfeiffer Men’s soccer coach Ken Hassler to head up the Stanley County program.
The recreation staff at FCCA has all the credentials, experience and passion for developing the young soccer player.
Program format
The FCCA recreation program curriculum focuses on the development of technical skills and game understanding through age-appropriate small-sided games. Our Youth Program is UNIQUE to our area! It is 100% skill-based with players will learning from collegiate level players and professional coaches.
The FCCA recreation program provides a curriculum that is appropriate for each age and each stage of cognitive, physical and social development.
The teams in our program play in smaller-side games, which means there will be fewer players on the field at a time and therefore each player will have a lot more touches on the ball. The more touches a player gets, the more times the player can experiment, be creative, gain confidence, and just become a better all round player.
FCCA recreation players practice twice per week in a pool training environment under the guidance of a curriculum that emphasizes skill development in a fun and positive atmosphere.
Small-sided games are implemented on Saturday mornings and throughout the recreation season FCCA recreation programs participate in intra-club festivals. They will participate in two to four festivals per year. Details on the curriculum, practice schedule and event schedule can be found in the links throughout the website.
FCCA Recreation Festivals
Throughout the recreation season multiple FCCA Recreation festivals of soccer are conducted. FCCA festivals of soccer unite all four FCCA recreation programs for a unique day of fun and rewarding soccer experience. Through successful planning, organization and with the implementation of the FCCA recreation program goals, FCCA recreation players have a unique opportunity to showcase their new acquired skills in intra-club festivals of soccer. Our festivals include sided games against our sister recreation programs, annual parent verses kids game and plenty of smiles all round are guaranteed.
