FCCA Classic Soccer Program
Classic Soccer at a Glance
The FCCA Classic program is designed to meet the needs of players that desire a more challenging playing environment than that provided by Challenge or Recreation programs. The Classic program is offered from U11 to U18 age groups for both boys and girls. There are four levels within classic soccer the top level being Region III followed by Premier, Classic A and Classic B. Classic soccer does have a slightly more demanding travel schedule because of the fewer teams entering the classic divisions than that of Challenge or Recreation.
FCCA makes every attempt to field at least two teams per age group and gender each season. FCCA Classic teams are determined during our open tryout process in May of each year and are selected based upon the coaching staff’s appraisal of each individual player’s talent coupled with the ambition of that player.
Program Format
FCCA Classic soccer players practice twice per week and are encouraged to participate in a third Speed/Agility and Technique (SAT) class as an extra session. FCCA SAT “Classes” are free classes run by professionally trained coaches focusing on three main areas, Speed, Agility and Technique. These three areas are crucial in the development of the modern soccer player. The FCCA SAT program involves a series of training blocks and soccer specific exercise’s designed to enhance the player’s technique, strength and power, as well as increase their quickness, explosiveness, active and reactive speed. This allows FCCA players to be better equipped to keep up with the constant change of direction and pace of the game.
FCCA Classic teams participate in three tournaments on average per season at the discretion of the Classic DOC or EDOC. Details on FCCA SAT classes and FCCA tournaments can be found on the specific links throughout the FCCA website.

Bridging the gap between Club and College is another step forward we have made as a club to give our players the best opportunity to carry on their soccer careers.
Program Leadership
FCCA has built strong relationships with the three academic institutions in our community. Pfeiffer University, UNC Charlotte and Catawba College players and staff provide the backbone of the coaching staff in the FCCA Challenge program.
The FCCA Challenge program provides quality coaching and exposure to collegiate soccer players and staff, who in turn serve as incredible role models to the youth of our club.
Executive Director Shane Carew alongside his Directors of Coaching has assembled one of the finest challenge staff in the region.
FCCA promotes players playing up to their level and does not mind players playing in a higher age group if the club sees fit. FCCA players will be constantly evaluated throughout the season to see if there are certain individuals who should be dual carded or permanently moved up in age.
Our goal is to make sure each individual at FCCA achieves their soccer related goals for their season and their long term goals as an FCCA player. As a club we understand that goal setting for young players is an important factor in their development.
Two Year Block Plan
FCCA has incorporated a Two year block plan which is designed with one goal in mind, to develop soccer players from a young age.
FCCA places their coaches into a 2 year block in which they will coach an individual team for that time. At the end of the second year the coach will pass that team up to the next 2 year coach and receive a new team ageing into his/her block.
Our reasoning behind 2 year block:
· Provides structure for Players and Parents
· Coaches find what works at that age group
· Coaches understand the level for each age group
· Set rotation of coaching staff is set up for player development
· Players understand what is expected at each 2 year block
· A sense of accomplishment as a player completes his/her block
As our mission statement points out, we are here to not only develop soccer players but also well round young adults.
“We provide youth soccer training and development to players of all ages, genders and abilities. We foster commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship, with a goal of achieving FUN and rewarding experiences, that produce well rounded young adults.”
