FC United Academy

The FCU Academy in Palm Coast is now open for enrollment for the Fall 2011 season.  This program will now expand to include full uniforms and league games!!!  The training will still be conducted jointly according to age in the following manner:

- U9/U10 Academy Teams

Groups will train together by age for advanced skill training and then play on their teams for their league games in a 4v4/5v5/6v6 format dependant upon age.

U9/U10 players may sign-up for the Academy and also register for tryouts for the FC United competitive teams.  If they are selected for a competitive team, the player’s registration and payment will be moved to the appropriate competitive team.

To register, please visit:  www.bluesombrero.com/fcunited

Please note that slots for this training will be limited, so sign-up quickly.

Academy Philosophy

Our main goal here at the Academy is to develop players.  While doing so, we will let them grow at their own pace.  We will focus on technical training, working on the fundamentals so our players are comfortable with the ball during games.  Tactics will be discussed and coached, but technique will be the focus.  Coaches during practice and games will encourage players to work on these skills without focusing on wins or losses.  This encouragement will give players the confidence they need to try things they might not have tried when there was an emphasis on the game result.  In turn, player development will happen more rapidly.

Our Academy is open to all players.  A player at any level can benefit from our format.  Our curriculum and lesson plans are based on the methods of US Youth Soccer.  These methods are presented at the National Youth course and the Youth Modules.

The Academy will consist of a Director, Staff and a pool of players.

The staff will be made up of qualified coaches.

Each coach will be given a minimal group of players during a training session.

The staff will execute the same lesson plan on the given night.
Players will be broken up into random and specific groups during practices and games over the course of the season.  This will expose players to all styles and levels of play while enhancing their social skills.
The Director will send out a master game roster by the Monday of that game week explaining the color your child will be wearing, the game manager your child will be playing under, the field they will be playing on and the game time.  Game times will be as consistent as possible so parents can plan their weekends.
Game managers will be parent volunteers that will focus on distributing equal playing time and encouragement.  They will be instructed to avoid sideline coaching.  The game is the teacher and this will be a great time to grade a player’s progression.
The emphasis of the Academy during training sessions and games will be on technical progression.  Teaching and learning the fundamentals is the key during their early years of soccer.
