DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Embry-Riddle head men’s soccer coach David Gregson has announced the signing of forward Veit Couturier for the 2011 season. Couturier officially signed his letter of intent to play for Embry-Riddle at the ERAU Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony where former men’s soccer standout Paul Buckley was one of three inductees.

“Veit is an exceptional young talent, one whom we expect to make a significant impact on our program in the years to come,” Gregson said. “He is the kind of person and athlete with whom we have built this program and I think he will be a great ambassador for our program both on and of the field. I know he is as excited as we are to get started with the new season.”

Couturier is a German national who gained dual citizenship with the United States and played his final two seasons of high school soccer at Crescent City (Fla.) High School. During his time with the Raiders, he made his home with Mark and Donna Fontana and their family, and the Fontanas had the opportunity to observe Couturier garner numerous individual accolades.

As a junior in 2009-10, Couturier scored 41 goals in 23 games and earned Putnam County Soccer Player of the Year honors. This season, he set a Putnam County high school record for goals scored in a single season with 53, including seven in the Raiders’ 9-1 win over Keystone Heights that earned them their second consecutive district title.

In addition to his scoring prowess, Couturier also excelled off the field. The recipient of Crescent City High School’s Mr. Academics and Mr. Congeniality awards, he was voted Homecoming King and maintained straight A’s on the way to Dean’s List recognition.

PURE FC Academy and FC United Enhance Partnership to Offer Elite Training to U13 & U14 Boys - Wednesday, December 15, 2010

The PURE FC Foundation recently announced plans to extend their partnership with FC United of Florida to include a full Academy program hosted at Indian Trails Sports Complex in Palm Coast beginning January 2011!

“With an already extremely successful Regional Development School in place in Palm Coast, this is the next step in furthering our partnership.“ Said PURE FC Foundation’s Director of Operations, Sean Stern. “Our relationship with FC United and the establishment of the PURE FC Academy-Palm Coast, now allows for a proper progression for talented local players beginning at 8 years old in the PURE FC Regional Development School, then on to the PURE FC Academy, and finally through to the professional ranks by way of our network of player development partners at the professional level.”

The PURE FC Academy is not a youth club or travel team program. The PURE FC Academy is a “club neutral” soccer training program focused on developing individual youth talent in an elite professional environment. The objective of the Academy is to identify and nurture talented young players in the region and provide them high-level training designed to complement and support the efforts of their club teams and coaches. The Academy program is a reduced cost program to ensure that economics do not stand in the way of developing local youth talent.  Open to talented boys, ages U13 and U14, and accessible by try-out only, the Academy combines top local prospects from a variety of local travel teams and places them together weekly in a unique high level training environment staffed by the area's most highly qualified and experienced youth coaches. With only one Sunday evening training session per week, and no game day commitments, the Academy does not interfere with a player’s regular club or school team commitments.

With the PURE FC Academy recently signing player development and identification agreements with Botafogo FR and R.R.F.C. Montegnee, players in the PURE FC Academy-Palm Coast program will not only be exposed to the top professional training methods, but will also have the opportunity to be identified by a professional team through quarterly exposure events.

Try outs for the PURE FC Academy-Palm Coast will be held on Sunday, January 9th at 6:00pm, at Indian Trails Sports Complex located at 5455 Belle Terre Pkwy in Palm Coast.

Players successful at try-outs will be invited to enroll in the PURE FC Academy-Palm Coast. Pre-registration for this try-out is essential. To register your player for the try-out, visit www.purefcacademy.com.

FC United Hosts International Friendly Match - Monday, March 22, 2010

The U13 Boys Black team hosted a U13 Boys team from the Papplewick School from the United Kingdom on the weekend of March 19-21.  The weekend started on Friday night with the arrival of the team and FC United hosted a pizza party, futsal (indoor version of soccer) and video games which served as an icebreaker where the boys got to know each other.  The British players then went to all of the FC United players houses where they would spend the rest of the weekend.

The next day saw the big soccer match with a formal ceremony presenting the teams and an exchange of country flags which was an extra special touch.  In the match, the FC United boys jumped out fast scoring four goals in the first half (2- Nick Weber, 1- Marcel Da Silva, 1- Garrett Raab) and then added a fifth (Faruh Isakov) in the second half to cruise to a 5-0 victory.  However, the match itself was very much a small piece of a very special weekend for staff, players and family members.

After the match, all of the players, coaches & families went to Flagler Beach where the teams had a great time playing soccer, rugby, digging forts & playing capture the flag as well as enjoyed a bonfire & barbeque.  It was definitely a fabulous weekend that will be cherished by everyone involved for a very long time.

Coach and club president Rich Weber, "What a great cultural exchange this has been for both teams.  The staff and players from Papplewick have been fabulous to be with throughout the weekend.  Additionally, what a great opportunity to excite our local players about the upcoming World Cup in South Africa this summer in which England and the US play in the same group and face each other in the opening match.  I kidded the British staff to remember 1950!!!"

1997 Players Selected for Florida State ODP Pool - Monday, February 08, 2010

FC United of Florida premier soccer club recently sent eight players to the Florida Youth Soccer Association's  Olympic Development Program (ODP) State tryouts.  These players participated in the state tryouts after being selected for advancement at highly competitive regional tryouts in October.  The club had four boys; Bryan Mejia, Liam Conville, Kade Sweeney and Nathan Monsanto and one girl; Amanda Raleigh compete at the 1997 age group.  The club also had four players selected to tryout at the 1996 age group: Matt Volk, David Dimare, Tyler Thibault and Nicholas Weber.

After an intense weekend of tryouts and two weeks of intensely waiting, the state pool results were released with Amanda Raleigh and Nathan Monsanto being selected in their age groups to advance to the US Region III Camp in Birmingham, AL this summer to  play against other teams throughout the South region.  They will also be looked at for selection to the US Regional Pool of players as well.

The club is very proud of all of its players that progressed so well throughout these tryouts and continues its legacy in producing Florida ODP players consistently each year.  Last year the club produced three 1996 boys selectees: Volk, Dimare & Weber, with Volk being selected to the Region III Pool of Players.

FC United is very proud of these players and the way they represented the communities, state and their respective club.  The club looks forward to placing additional players in March when it sends its 1993-1995 age group players to ODP tryouts.  The club continues to provide the highest level of coaching, training and play in the area and provides an intense commitment to player development.

U16 Boys Advance in State Cup - Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Congratulations to the U16 Boys Black team for a great run in the State Cup competition.  In the second round, they finished second in their group on a single goal loss to the group winner that prevented them from advancing to the final sixteen.

During the opening round of the competition, the team managed to tie for tops in their group with seven points by defeating the Lauderdale Lions and East Lake Arsenal and tying HC United to advance to the next round on April 17/18 to play for a position in the final 16 teams in the State Cup.

Also, a solid effort must be commended for our U14 Boys and U14 Girls Black teams which were narrowly eliminated from the State Cup competition.  Though they did not advance, they are clearly positioned to learn from the experience and come back stronger next year.

FC United continues to focus on placing its teams at the highest levels of play and expects several more State Cup teams for the 2010-2011 season.

FC United Futsal Shootout - Thursday, December 24, 2009

FC United of Florida hosted its first annual Winter Futsal (Indoor Soccer) tournament for U13/14 Boys teams at Rymfire Elementary School.  The event was focused on building a fun exciting environment for teams to come and play this great indoor variation of the game of soccer.

Futsal is the official indoor soccer game of FIFA and is a fast paced, highly skilled variation of the game which originated in South America.  Futsal is played between two teams of five players (including goalkeeper), with additional substitutes as desired.  Unlike some other forms of indoor soccer, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines. Walls or boards are not used. Most typically, basketball courts are a perfect fit for the game as was utilized for this event.  Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regulation soccer ball and has rules that place an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

Two FC United U13 Boys teams captured both 1st and 3rd place in the tournament.  First place was taken by the FC United U13 Boys (aka- French Toast Mafia) with an exciting come from behind win by a score of 7-5 over the runner-up, Ormond Beach Apollo U14 Boys.  This FCU team did very well in gaining the top seed by going undefeated and untied through group play, before easily handling Port Orange in their semi final and advancing to the championship match where they won a highly competitive match.

There was great excitement on this Championship Sunday as it was very nearly an all FC United final as FCU battled Apollo to a 4-4 draw in their semi-final in the morning, before conceding a goal with 30 seconds remaining which sent Apollo to the championship match and FCU to the consolation match.  In this match, 3rd Place went to the FC United U13 Boys (aka- Cow Tipping Ninjas), who defeated the Port Orange Stingrays U13 Boys by a score of 8-6 in a come from behind victory.

FC United will continue to pursue skill building programs such as this to continue to focus on player development opportunities for its players.  These programs, coupled with the highly skilled professional training opportunities provided by the club will continue to produce the greatest opportunities for advancement in the game within the area.

FC United of Florida premier soccer recently sent three state selected players to represent Florida for the 1996 Boys age group in the Region III Camp for the United States Youth Soccer Association’s Olympic Development Program (ODP).  The players participated in very competitive trials/tryouts at both the regional and state level throughout the fall and winter before being selected for the Florida state pool of players to travel to the University of Alabama for this highly competitive honor.

Matt Volk and David Dimare from St. Augustine and Nicholas Weber from Palm Coast were the three state selected players that participated.  Volk and Weber were on the Florida-Y team, while Dimare was on Florida-Z team.  The teams competed against other Region III states running from North Carolina through Texas and were observed and evaluated throughout the week.  Florida’s teams were very successful overall including the Florida-Y team posting an undefeated record.  As an added bonus, Volk was also selected for the Region III pool of players that will compete in elite competitions over the winter months.  This is a very special honor for which the club is very proud.

Additionally, Florida and Region III coaches were very complimentary of the boys for the 1996 age group and the Florida coaches stated that it was the best first year ODP group they have ever seen.
