Haverford Soccer Club Scholarship Information 2011

Scholarship Description:  The Haverford Soccer Club Scholarship Program is designed to recognize high school seniors who are planning to attend college (or other postsecondary educational institution) and who have demonstrated (1) the qualities of sportsmanship, leadership and character, (2) a commitment to academics, (3) a commitment to the sport of soccer, and (4) a commitment to the programs of the Haverford Soccer Club.  Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded, one to a girl and one to a boy.

 

Selection Process:  A link to the application is above. Interested candidates are encouraged to fill out all application materials and select an academic teacher to complete the Teacher Evaluation form and a soccer coach or administrator to fill out the Coach’s Evaluation form.  All materials must be postmarked no later than May 18, 2011[1].  A committee of the Haverford Soccer Club Board of Directors (the “HSC Scholarship Committee”) will review applications and select two HSC Scholarship Winners, one boy and one girl, each of whom will receive $1,000.  Winners will be chosen based on the criteria set forth above under “Scholarship Description.”  All decisions made by Haverford Soccer Club are final.  Chosen recipients will be notified directly and an announcement of the winners will be posted on the Club’s website and may be disseminated to local news media outlets.

 

Eligibility:

1.              Applicant must be in his/her senior year of high school, with expected graduation in the spring of 2011.

2.              Applicant must be entering an accredited college, university or other postsecondary educational institution in the fall of 2011.

3.              Applicant must have participated in programs of the Haverford Soccer Club.

4.              Members of the Haverford Soccer Club Board of Directors and their immediate family members (defined as spouses, children, parents, siblings, in-laws) are not eligible.

 

To Apply: (Please note incomplete applications will not be considered for a scholarship)

1.        Complete all sections of the application that are to be completed by the applicant – i.e., the Personal Information, Soccer Information and Activities & Honors sections of the application.  Sign the application and, if you are under 18, have a parent sign it as well.  Note: if you need more space to complete any answer, please use the Additional Information Page (page 3 of the application, after the signature page).

2.        Have a teacher or secondary school guidance counselor fill out the Teacher Evaluation form[2] and return it to you in a sealed envelope with their signature across the seal.

3.        Have a soccer coach or administrator from Haverford Soccer Club (past or present) fill out the Coach’s Evaluation form and return it to you in a sealed envelope with their signature across the seal.[3]

4.        Obtain a copy of (1) your high school transcript, showing you GPA and, if applicable, class rank, and (2) the acceptance letter from the institution you plan to attend next year.

5.       Send all forms and information together, postmarked by May 18, 20111 to: Thomas Longo Haverford Soccer 2431 Hirst Terrace, Havertown, PA 19083.



[1] The deadline for the submission of applications may be extended by the HSC Scholarship Committee in its sole discretion.  The Committee will use its best efforts to cause any such extension to be posted on the HSC website as soon as practicable after any such decision to extend is made.

[2] The Teacher Evaluation form and Coach’s Evaluation form are attached, immediately following the Additional Information Page.

[3] If you are unable to locate any current or former HSC coach who is familiar with you, please have the coach’s evaluation filled out by another coach (e.g., from your school) and include an note indicating that you have done so.
