  What KVSA Offers

KVSA SOCCER PROGRAMS: Fall 2008

Kaw Valley Soccer Association offers Recreational, Club and Premier Division Soccer programs to support youth soccer in our community. Our Non-Profit Organization is dedicated to provide opportunities and family friendly environment to enable youth players to enjoy the game of soccer, and to realize their potential in the knowledge of the game.

RECREATIONAL DIVISION: The Recreational Division is open to players ages 4 to 13 and focuses on fun and participation. No try-outs are required. Usually one parent per team volunteers as a coach/referee to lead practices and games. Coaches’ clinics are offered. All games are played at YSI Sport Complex (4911 W. 27th Street).

HOBBITS: This is a parent-child soccer program for children 4 and 5 year old, not yet in Kindergarten (see below for age group definition). Experienced KVSA coaches will guide parents and their Hobbits in one hour of skills training and soccer games. Parents participate in the skills training. Sessions are held at YSI Sport Complex (4911 W. 27th Street, Lawrence) on Saturdays (7 weeks, September 6th till October 25th, 2008). No practices are held during the week. Shin guards and a T-shirt are required. Fees include a Hobbit T-shirt and soccer ball for new players

RECREATIONAL TEAMS A 7-game fall and spring season are organized each school year. Practices are held once or twice a week in the player’s school area. Teams are formed to achieve gender and age balance. No win/loss statistics or standings are kept; no awards are given. Teams are generally coed: all-girls teams are possible in the U8 through U12 age groups, based on registration requests and enough players for 4 teams. Players are assigned to teams by school attended if possible. Players assigned in the fall to a team stay together for the spring season, if these players re-register for the spring season by the deadline. New spring players are assigned to fill vacancies on any existing teams. Players must wear shin guards, red/blue shirt(s), and shoes. The optional KVSA player jersey will be sold on the first 3 game days from 8.00-11:00 AM, at Field 11. The Spring games runs from Septber 6th till October 25th, 2008. All games are played in Lawrence at the YSI Sports complex. Playing time is 50% per game. Player and parent commitment in recreational soccer is usually not too intense and players often play other sports.

CLUB DIVISION: The Club Division is an intermediate level soccer program emphasizing instruction in soccer skills and tactics provided by qualified coaches. This league promotes local competitive play among teams within KVSA, and all games are played at the YSI Sport Complex. There are two 9 game seasons: fall and spring. Fall teams remain together for the spring season. Players are rostered from August to May. Player fees do not include uniforms. Uniforms must be purchased from KVSA at the start of the season. Divisions currently include coed U10, U12 and Junior High. All-girls or other age group divisions will be considered based on registration requests. Players practice twice each week. Games are played on Saturday and occasionally on a Sunday or weeknight. Fall training starts  August 11th, 2008. The Fall season starts Saturday September 6th and ends October 25th, 2008.

PREMIER DIVISION: The Premier Division, having Kaw Valley Force teams (U9 through U19 Boys & Girls teams), offers players the most competitive soccer experience. All games are played against teams from other Premier clubs at Heritage Park in Olathe and/or at regional tournaments. Players are selected to teams by tryouts. Check www.kawvalleysoccer.com . Premier for try-out dates/times -1st tryout was June 14th, 2008
