Director of Coaching

Dear Players / Coaches & Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
My name is Mark Ruest and I have recently been hired as the Director of Coaching in charge of education, recreation and competition for the New Hampshire Soccer Association. I come to the position after teaching elementary school physical education for the past eleven years and being named the NH Elementary School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. During that time I had the opportunity to coach and teach individuals at all levels from preschool to adult.

I have been involved with the NHSA for the past six years serving as an Olympic Development Team Coach and a Coaching Course Instructor. I am currently a member of the Region I girls staff and hold a National Youth and "A" license from the United States Soccer Federation.

As I get ready to start the job in September, I am looking forward to working with players, coaches and parents from all over the state by providing clinics, workshops and a resource for information about this amazing sport of ours. I hope to be able to provide help with subject matter such as coaching various topics of the game, general coaching methodology, characteristics of players, the importance of adults as role models, etc.

Generally speaking, soccer is a game that should be fun at all levels for those who participate whether a player, coach, official or spectator. Perhaps it's the joy of mastering a new skill, getting caught up in the thrill of competition or watching a bunch of individuals come together as a group to produce something spectacular, it is all about a joy for the game.

The more understanding and skill I develop as a coach or player the more fun the sport becomes for me. I am excited at the prospect that I will be able to share my journey with others and by doing so perhaps make the game more enjoyable and meaningful for everyone in our state.
