U4 AND U5 Programs
Description: These two programs are very similar. We want to introduce the children to the game of soccer.
Each session is structured with 30 minutes of drills/fun games, followed with a 30 minute 3v3 game. The goal for each child is to learn basic soccer foot skills, take direction from the staff coach and a volunteer parent coach, and have FUN!!
Format:
* Sessions consist of 30 minutes of practice and 30 minutes for a game (60 total minutes)
* Games will be 3v3 on a small field with no goalkeeper.
When and where:
* Game dates for Spring 2012: April 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29 and May 5, 6, 12, 19, 20 (all dates subject to change) - U4/U5 will be scheduled for 8 games
* PASA Soccer Complex on Hill Road
Equipment required:
* #3 Soccer Ball
* Soccer cleats (recommended; no baseball or football cleats)
* Shin guards
Inclement Weather: Please check the front page of our website and/or your email for game cancellations or delays. Coaches/Team Managers are responsible or contacting players.
Sessions: Every player should bring a ball, because for most of the practice, every player will be working with their own ball at their feet. This maximizes the learning of foot skills, which is the first route to enjoying soccer. Most children at this age have short attention spans, and may not want to fully participate during a session, and that is okay. Some sessions they will be into it, and some sessions they will not want to participate at all, which is fine. Forcing a child to participate will make them only dislike playing the game further.
Games: Games are played small sided (3v3). There are no goalkeepers. Begin by making sure the players know who their teammates are, and which direction they are trying to go. Roll the ball into the middle and play begins. Other soccer rules are loosely applied, with the aim being to keep the kids playing rather than enforcing rules that they do not understand. Score not kept in these games. Remember, the only purpose is to have fun. One parent coach from each team should be on the field with the players, to encourage and coach the team.
All games (with exceptions for Junior High and High School teams) are played at the Pickerington Youth Sports Complex located at 630 Hill Road North in Pickerington. Fun, recreation, team play and soccer basics are emphasized. All coaches are parent volunteers. Practices are held one night per week for all age groups except U4 and U5. Most games are on Saturdays but we also play on weeknights and Sundays if/when necessary. Our youngest league age is Under-4 and our oldest league age is Over 40.
